About the Walk

Employees of Lincoln Public Schools have joined forces with the Food Bank of Lincoln to promote the second annual BackPack Extra Mile Walk. Kids are the most important and valuable asset we have and the BackPack program provides weekly food filled backpacks to families in need. The Backpack Extra Mile Walk is a wonderful way to get some exercise while promoting physical activity in a fun family environment and raising money for a worthy program.

The concept of supporting the BackPack Program is simple: Children are our most important and valuable assets, and healthy, well-nourished children are much better learners. The BackPack Extra Mile Walk helps raise funds for LPS children, helping our families meet a basic need: Food. During the week, students on free and reduced lunch are provided nutritious breakfasts and lunches at school, but a weekend can be a long time to go without food.

By participating in the walk, you are taking the first step towards fighting hunger in our community. Participants show they support the children of Lincoln and are dedicated to making a difference in their well being.

This is the second year for LPS to collaborate on this important community service project, and we hope we can do even better. Last year more than 3,000 walkers raised $127,000 for our communitys children. Lets make a difference in providing more backpacks for hungry children. Lets go the extra mile in addressing hunger in our community.
